Professor Raymond Steele - Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce that MAC Ltd’s Founder and former Managing Director and Chairman, Professor Raymond Steele, has passed away. Ray established the company in 1986 to provide high quality consulting services and products to the emerging mobile communications sector and he served as the Managing Director and then Chairman of the Board until his retirement in 2004. He was a true pioneer of modern mobile communications and anyone who met him or attended one of his many lectures around the world will know that he was a real visionary who wasn’t afraid to express his views on the future of communications technology, regardless of how absurd these may have seemed at the time. When we look at the world today, we see that so many of the things that Ray predicted have come true.

Capita and MAC Ltd Delivering The Internet of Public Safety Things

Capita Secure Solutions and Services (Capita) and Multiple Access Communications Limited (MAC Ltd) are collaborating to bring new solutions to the public safety community based around Capita’s ControlWorks® public safety solution and MAC Ltd’s Internet of Things (IoT) expertise and wireless sensor solutions.

Capita will be exhibiting examples of the results of this collaboration next month at the Home Office Security and Policing Event (5 - 7 March 2019) and the British APCO Annual Conference and Exhibition (12 - 13 March 2019). To illustrate the varied capabilities of this integration, visitors to Capita’s exhibition stands will be able to experience the remote monitoring of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), which are becoming commonplace throughout our communities, and access/inspection chamber monitoring to prevent tampering and theft.

MAC Ltd becomes a Sigfox Partner

Multiple Access Communication Limited (MAC Ltd) has further cemented its position as a leading player in the Internet of Things (IoT) by becoming a Sigfox Partner. MAC Ltd was an early pioneer of the IoT with its work on environmental monitoring in the Floodnet project in the early 2000s. By joining the Sigfox Partner Network, MAC Ltd has confirmed its commitment to participating in and growing the Sigfox and IoT ecosystems.

"We view Sigfox as an ideal technology to provide low cost, low power wide area connectivity in a range of applications where small amounts of data need to be transferred", explained Peter Gould, MAC Ltd's Consulting Services Director. "With the wide array of wireless systems available today, a solid understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of each is essential in any technology selection and development process - this is where our experience and expertise can really bring value to our customers."
