Working with network operators to reduce

the risks of network evolution

Frequently Multiple Access Communications Limited (MAC Ltd) is engaged by network operators to assist with technology selection and the definition of a technology roadmap.

Future technology strategy

MAC Ltd provides invaluable information, know-how and analysis to assist network operators with planning the evolution of their networks. We provide support for licence applications and spectrum valuations. We assist operators with assessments of their vendors' technology roadmaps for RAN equipment, analysing claims and data provided by the vendor. Such work is undertaken as part of regular vendor technology strategy reviews, or as part of a vendor selection process. Technology evaluations can take the form of a relatively high-level engineering analysis, through to detailed simulation work and modelling to evaluate the real value of a new feature or feature improvement. Likewise, we work with equipment vendors and operators to evaluate the likely impact of system changes prior to deployment. We can also assist with the preparation of technical requirements documents that are used to specify feature enhancements, or are used as a basis to solicit interest from vendors as part of a RFP process.

Preparing for new technology

Technology selection

We support operators by providing assessments of alternative, competing or new technologies, with spectrum strategy and spectrum utilisation being a key consideration. We can undertake design studies for the new technologies to assess the costs and benefits of a particular technology roadmap, defining or validating the design parameters for technologies for which there is little or no existing performance data. We can also provide modelling and analysis to determine the optimum window for transition to a new technology.

Technology Trials

Following on from an initial assessment, when an operator moves forward to the trial phase we can provide support for trials of new network configurations, new equipment or new technologies. We have supported trials of 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 3.5G networks and equipment. We can provide full trial support, from trial definition and project planning, to data collection, analysis and reporting.
